About this tool
Converting to PDF freezes a document. Fonts, spacing and page breaks stop depending on the reader's software, which is why almost every application form, job posting and tender asks for PDF rather than Word. This converter reads the document in your browser and lays it out afresh: headings, bold and italic text, bullet and numbered lists, tables and embedded images all carry over, paginated to A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or A5 as you choose. Old .doc files from Word 97 to 2003 are read directly, and RTF is supported too. Some Word features have no simple equivalent in a freshly laid out document and are simplified: text boxes, multi-column sections, headers and footers, and precise floating image positions. For a text document that is usually invisible; for a designed brochure it is not. Nothing is uploaded, which matters when the document is a contract, a salary letter or a medical record.
