About this tool

PDF and Word store documents in opposite ways. Word stores meaning: this is a heading, this paragraph flows onto the next page. A PDF stores placement: draw this character at this exact point. Converting back means reading positions and inferring structure, which is why results are excellent for ordinary documents and imperfect for complex layouts. Reports, letters, essays and contracts with a single column of text convert cleanly, with headings, paragraphs and lists rebuilt as real Word elements you can edit. Magazine layouts, multi-column pages and tables with merged cells are simplified, because the original grouping simply is not recorded in the file. If the result comes back empty, the PDF is a scan and contains no text at all; use Scanned PDF to Word, which reads the page with OCR first.
