About this tool

India uses two different passport photo formats, and this tool makes both. When you apply online through Passport Seva, the photo is checked automatically: it must be a JPG of exactly 630 by 810 pixels, between 10 KB and 250 KB, with your face filling roughly 80 to 85 percent of the frame on a plain white background. That is the default output here, and the file is capped at 240 KB so it clears the limit with room to spare. If you need prints for a form or a Passport Seva Kendra, switch Photo size to the 35 × 45 mm print, or choose the 4 × 6 inch sheet to print several copies on standard photo paper. Official guidance asks for photos that are not altered by software, so the most reliable route is to stand against a plain white wall in even daylight and let the tool only crop and resize. Use background whitening gently, to even out a light wall, never to replace a busy background. Avoid glasses, keep your mouth closed and look straight at the camera from about one and a half meters away.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Indian passport photo for the online upload?

630 × 810 pixels, JPG, between 10 KB and 250 KB. That is this tool's default output.

What is the printed passport photo size in India?

35 × 45 mm, in color, on a white background. Choose the print size or the 4×6 inch sheet in the options.

Why was my passport photo rejected?

The most common reasons are the wrong pixel size (anything other than 630 × 810), a file over 250 KB, shadows or an off-white background, glasses or glare, and photos that have been filtered or retouched.

Can I wear glasses?

It is best not to. Frames and reflections are a frequent reason photos are rejected.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.

Is India Passport Photo (630×810 px & 35×45 mm) free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no usage limit.

Which file types can I use?

JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, SVG, ICO. Files are checked by their actual content, not just the extension, so renamed or damaged files are caught early.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers on Android and iPhone. Heavier jobs (large PDFs, OCR) are faster on a computer.
