About this tool
Cropping decides what stays in the frame. Most of the time the reason is a platform: Instagram wants a square or 4:5, YouTube wants 16:9, a profile picture wants 1:1. Choosing a ratio here crops to it automatically, and the focus sliders control which part is kept, which matters when the subject is not in the middle. Faces near the top of a photo usually need the vertical focus moved up, or the crop will cut the head. Custom margins are the other mode, trimming a set percentage from each edge, which is the quick way to remove a border, a watermark strip or the edges of a scan. Cropping never re-renders the parts you keep beyond the format conversion, so quality is unchanged. If your goal is a specific platform size rather than a ratio, the social media resizer combines cropping and scaling into one step and gives you the exact pixel dimensions each app expects.

Frequently asked questions
How do I crop without cutting off someone's head?
Move the vertical focus slider towards the top. The crop window slides with it, keeping faces in frame instead of centring blindly.
Does cropping lose quality?
No. The remaining pixels are untouched. Only the discarded area is lost, which is the point.
What ratio should I use for Instagram?
1:1 for a square post, 4:5 for a portrait post that fills more of the feed, and 9:16 for stories and reels.
Is Crop Image free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no usage limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Crop Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device and nothing is stored - close the tab and everything is gone.
Which file types can I use?
JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, SVG, ICO. Files are checked by their actual content, not just the extension, so renamed or damaged files are caught early.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 200.0 MB, and you can process up to 50 files at once. Because processing uses your device's memory, very large files work best on a computer.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers on Android and iPhone. Heavier jobs (large PDFs, OCR) are faster on a computer.
